Teen Driver’s Ed Course

Our 5-week Vermont state-approved course prepares teens for safe, independent driving with 30 hours of in-person classroom instruction, 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training, and 6 hours of in-car observation. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Vermont Driver’s Education Certificate, which can be submitted to the DMV as part of the Junior Driver’s License application process.

Course Details:

  • Format: In-person classroom instruction + weekly driving/observation lessons

  • Eligibility: The course is open to 15, 16 & 17 year olds with a valid Vermont learners permit. Students must complete 10 hours of practice driving with a parent/guardian before the first class meeting

  • Orientation: Mandatory parent/guardian info session at 1 PM on the Sunday before the first class. Parent/guardian support is required throughout the course

  • Location: Classes and orientation are held at the Winston Prouty Campus in Brattleboro, Vermont

  • Classroom Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6–8 PM

  • Driving Schedule: Students select a recurring weekly 2-hour in-car lesson block at the time of enrollment

  • Transportation: Students and families must arrange their own transportation to and from class and driving lessons

  • Materials: Materials are loaned to the student for the duration of the course at no cost

  • Refunds: Refunds will be issued no later than one week before the first day of class

  • Attendance: Students may miss up to two classroom sessions (with approved makeup work assigned in lieu) and one driving lesson (assessed with a $110 rescheduling fee)

  • Course Completion: To receive a completion certificate, students must attend all required class sessions, complete their driving and observation hours, finish all assigned coursework, and return school property. Students will receive their certificate within one week of completing the course
